Not a hike, but a motorcycle ride. Nice easy fun spot that’s in-between two cities. Not big, but fun

Very great trail! We had a few Tacoma’s both 2WD and 4WD. One of the 2WD Tacoma’s were stock and did perfectly fine. Cannot wait to go back!

Not much scenery on the walk. The walk dawn is far easier than the walk back up. Well worth the trip down to go for a swim. Be mindful of the heat any time after noon in the summer months. Very little shade except the last half mile.

Excellent hike. On way to Waterfalls it is all downhill. Three/four water falls, spectacular location. On the way back it is mostly uphill- well worth it.

Did out and back as a prep hike for Mt Whitney. Very tough. Tons of water in the stream next to the trail.

As indicated, this route passes through private property near “Red Top Mountain” on Southwest portion of the loop. DO NOT ENTER PRIVATE PROPERTY. Private property boundary is clearly marked on GAIA online and multiple locked gates with signs. Take the obvious, open, not gated, inner loop to avoid the private property. Skye Valley road is not a thru road! No Lyons Valley Road access via Skye Valley Road.

Nice easy hike with a great stop at the midpoint to see the waterfall and cool off a bit in the cool water. Enjoyed it a lot but it costed $12.50 per person, which I think is a little steep.

Not the most exciting hike I’ve been on but nice little hike in the evening. It’s not too hard and it is in the shade in the evening since it is mostly in the east side of the mountain. Worth doing once.

Somewhat difficult hike. We made it up to the picnic area, which was about 1.8 miles with an elevation gain of 1035 ft. On the way up we saw what looked like a goat that came very close to us, about 10 yards. On the way down at about 1 pm we saw an entire family of big horn sheep, about 15 of them, hanging out together eating. Other than that, it was pretty uneventful. There is no shade anywhere in the hike so go early in the day or more in the Fall and Winter months.

4/27/19. Wonderful hike up to Sugarloaf. Nice overcast in the morning and got hotter as the marine layer burned off. We were treated to great views of all the local mountains. There are two Sugarloafs, you first see two rock cairns denoting the trail to Old Sugarloaf which looks pretty demanding. If you continue about 1 more mile, you get to New Sugarload which is a much easier hike up. I've done the latter and am looking forward to the former another day. Watch out for bikes which use this for a downhill bomb from Blue Jay. Round trip is about 12.6 miles.

Really great and secluded camp site at the end of the trail. Pretty meadow with a small stream. Lots of open area. There is an 8 mile, mostly dirt road you have to take to the trail head and I would not recommend anyone drive without some reasonable clearance and all wheel drive. However this is probably why the camp site is so nice. Not a lot of people. We only saw two small groups. The trail is moderate with a pack on but downhill so if you plan to leave some weight behind on your way back up you should be fine. Not a lot of shade on the trail. Also be prepared for bugs. A little spray and the insects pretty much kept to themselves. All in all this is an excellent trail and camping area. You will need to contact the Palomar Ranger station for a permit but it’s free.

You definitely need to be in reasonable shape for this trail. Physically demanding nearly the entire way to the summit and back. Bring lots of water and energizing food. Suggest breaks every hour and choose a cool weather day. The views are worth the effort though.

This is my favorite way to do Santiago and Modjeska in the same day. I hate the road into Holy Jim, and this route is smooth pavement until Maple Springs Road turns to dirt where you park. From there I climb a trail that I've heard called the "Sierra Club Route to Modjeska Peak" which climbs the ridge crossing Maple Springs Road repeatedly until you reach the main divide road. Heading up the Main Divide Road to the right for 100 yards, you'll see a trail on the left which provides wonderful shade going up to Modjeska Peak. The trail continues and drops back down to the main divide road where you climb up to Santiago. Return via the same route. Great in spring when the wildflowers are out. My main problem is that the first part is a bit overgrown and could use some maintenance as it's a huge deep rut in some places.

what a disappointment and waste of time. Can’t get to this hike. The road is closed with a sign that says warning no trespassing private corporate property on site patrols trespassers will be prosecuted

The trail was very nice, although one leg of the upstream part of the trail was washed out, so there was no loop. This made for a rather crowded hike, with tons of tourists trooping back and forth. We were treated to pretty close views of a bighorn ram, who posed atop a rock and clambered around the rocks for our benefit. The waterfall was very nice, although the big cottonwood tree next to the plunge pool blocked views for good photography. I would rate this a 5 except for the hordes hiking the trail, which detracted from the experience.

Nice 7.6 mile out and back hike with switchbacks through grass covered hills. Great views from the ocean to the mountains. You need your nature pass to park.

The temperature was relatively cold (mid-40's), it was windy, dark clouds threatened rain, and I was hiking by myself in area I had never been before, so I was very happy to find a hike where the trailhead could be reached by a paved road, there was plenty of parking, and the trail was obvious and well signed. Considering the weather there were more hikers than I would have expected, but it was a Sunday and the hike is easy and definitely worthwhile. The tree cover in the first part of the hike makes a blustery day much more pleasant but the last portion of the trail is exposed to whatever Mother Nature wants to throw at you. Low hanging clouds blocked some mountain tops and ridges from view, but it was still a very scenic and enjoyable hike -- and it never did rain.

An easy out-and-back trail with some great views of mountains and the expansive valley between them. The hike was mostly through light tree coverage with the last mile or so on exposed plain where there was a strong breeze. The views and rock formation at the end of the hike was definitely worth the trip and as an added bonus, coming from 78 there's an opportunity for some Julian Apple Pies! It would be fun to do again with young children/older relatives as there is little elevation gain and the hike is relatively easy.

Relatively steep downhill start turns into steep uphill on the way back. Quite a few steep ascents and descents with rutted/ rocky trails that made made footing a little sketchy. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Good workout.

This was a great out and back trail with a fantastic views! I don't go on my hikes just for the photos, but the scenery and the Eagle Rock did not disappoint. A little bit about the trail - it was beautifully covered with oak trees, then around mile 2 the trees went away and it got very windy. We hiked in late November, and would recommend this hike during the off-summer months. There is zero shade for the last mile to Eagle Rock. Bring water. There is no water sources on the trail (at least in November). There is a small public parking lot at the trail head. I would love to go to this destination again.

An awesome hike with lots to see and fun changes in surroundings. Did it in October, which had some surprising fall color. You’ll need a vehicle with good ground clearance for the last 2 miles of off road to the trail head. Use Google Maps to navigate to the TH which is north of the summit (look for Cahuilla Mountain Trail). Definitely one of the best hikes in the area.
