Mt. Wilson via Sturtevant Trail
This was my first time hiking a mountain in Southern California. It was a lovely and challenging hike from the trailhead in Chantry Flats to the Mt. Wilson summit. Getting down was the tricky part. I did this hike on a cloudy day in November, and right about the time I reached the summit, thick fog rolled in before I could head back down. A kind soul took pity on me as I wandered around the complex on the top of the mountain, and shuttled me back to where I parked. I'll be giving this hike a do-over, next time on a sunny Spring or Summer day. I was looking forward to the view, but other than some lovely fall colors in the trees on the way up, I missed out on the scenery.
Mt Wilson from Chantry Flat
This hike was way tougher than I imagine it was. We took the winter creek trail, which is exposed and could be hot in the summer, but fortunately it was an overcast and cool day. Got to the parking lot at 6:30 and there were plenty of spots, but by 7 it was pretty full.
