Overview

Moderate and scenic lollipop loop hike or snowshoe from Frog Lake Trailhead and Sno-Park to Palmateer Point in Mount Hood National Forest. Head north on wide and well maintained Pacific Crest Trail. For a clockwise loop continue past two junctions with Twin Lakes Loop Trail #495 to Palmateer Trail #482. Take the out-and-back detour to Palmateer Point for an unobstructed of Mt Hood and surrounding wilderness. Continue south on the Palmateer Trail to the junction with the Twin Lakes Trail near Upper Twin Lake. The route continues to Lower Twin Lake and then back to the PCT.
Elevation gain is ~1350 feet.

Getting Started

Ample parking in the Frog Lake Trailhead and Sno-Park. The trailhead is at Wapinitia Pass 4.2 miles south of the junction of highway 26 and 35, near milepost 62. The parking area has an outhouse and picnic tables. Snopark is also used by snowmobiles heading south.

Taking Children

Good hike for teenagers. Long for younger children.


This is an alternate route for Upper Twin Lake Loop via Pacific Crest Trail and Twin Lakes Trail #495.
