This is a moderate trail that initially climbs for 2.5 miles to Gumjuwac saddle then you descend into the Beaver Creek valley. You are afforded a view of Mount Hood as you round a rocky area near the top of the climb

Getting Started

The trailhead is on the north side of the East Fork Hood River. There is parking for approximately 2 vehicles at the trailhead, there is a newer trailhead that is on the Southwest side of the river behind some trees but only has parking for a few vehicles overflow is off HWY 35 on the Southwest side there is sufficient space to park and not be concerned about vehicular traffic driving.

Mid August most of the flowers have withered in the heat, but not all! The trail is not without great variety to see in the tree and shrub species and there are many boggy or creek crossings that are cool and refreshing. The real reason for hiking at this time is for the huckleberries and wild blueberries which are abundant and delicious.
