Fall day. Started in the upper 40s and it had about 72. The walk is easy. There are a few moderate but short climbs, but basically you’re either following a ridge line or the lower courses along stream beds.
There are enough intersecting trails that if you want to modify your trip you can. This app is incredible for how accurate it is.

Started out very well going east to get the 3 miles of gravel lane out-of-the-way. At about mile five it started to rain but not enough to make it cool. All I did was make the air sick. Battled heat exhaustion the entire way. by all means take plenty of water if the temperatures are going to be in the high 80s or 90s as they were today

Lovely day, moderate humidity, but in low 70s, plenty of sunshine. Trail had some tacky mud in places from recent rains, but didn’t cling to boots.
Gravel road at the start turns to a nice woodland path and ambles down the hill. Can’t say much in favor of the gravel road toward the end. Hard on feet. Grade is not bad and when the road is used more often (after crossing tulip tee trace) It becomes more pleasant.
Diamonds mark the way and sometimes change in route are marked with two white, painted diamonds. There are also random white blazes reminiscent of Appalachian Trail, but I could not figure out their purpose. Mile markers perhaps?
First time using this app and was impressed at how closely it followed me. Did the 10.6 miles in 4.5 hours and it used about half my iPhone battery.

Hiked this trail for the first time June 13th. It’s not difficult skill wise but it is very grueling. The entire northern part is a three mile gravel vehicle road that is connected to private property and pretty poorly marked as the low gap trail. We started at the low gap/rocky shelter trail head and went clock wise to get the gravel portion over with, which I recommend if you want to complete the low gap loop. However, if I were to do this again I would omit the entire northern section and just hike the southern section up through the back country. The hiking there is relatively difficult and the scenery and forest is beautiful. There is also a parking lot once gap rd which would be a good entry point.

Good hike for when you don’t have time for the whole low gap trail loop. Combined two smaller loop trails.

A mediocre hike through trees with one cool ravine and rock outcropping.

We had an amazing hike on this trail! The worst part is the 3 mile stretch along the north leg that is on a gravel road (I'd recommend hiking boots if you have them), but beyond that it was fantastic. There are many great campsites for those who want to backpack, and even some sites right next to the parking lot if you prefer car camping. The trail is quite different on the eastern portion than it is on the west and southern parts, makes for an interesting and enjoyable hike.

Definitely the best part was the Low Gap Nature Preserve with decent elevation for Indiana. Morgan Monroe has many crushed gravel or sand trails to allow for family hiking experiences, so it has taken away some of the challenge of wooded trails. But overall beautifully maintained and definitely worth the rugged category for our state.
