I’ve seen some 1 and 2 star reviews on this hike. Not sure what the issue is but this is hands down a 5 star hike by any sensible person’s criteria. In short, it’s an EPIC hike considering the environment, the people, Fitz Roy, and just being alive!

Perfect starter hike with great views of Fitz Roy. Get the blood flowing as you get started on longer more rigorous hikes.

we took a 30 minute shuttle from El Chaltén to the trailhead and walked south 11 miles back to town. It was a beautiful clear day.

Absolutely gorgeous hike. The reward is the lake at the foot of the Fitz Roy that is held in a sort of elevated basin. There’s another lake at the halfway point that offers some beautiful views as well. Multiple overlooks also offer views of the valley and the river that winds through it.
I would classify this hike as difficult when taken in its entirety. The elevation happens mostly at the beginning and very end. The middle kilometers from marker 3-8 are mostly flat and offer a good chance to recover. The last kilometer or so to the top is very steep and gave my legs a workout.

Very nice hike on a beautiful day. The very peak of Fitz Roy was always in the clouds.
