Face Rock Loop via Split Rock Trail
Overview
This moderate trail in Joshua Tree National Park combines two loops through desert washes and around massive granite boulders formed by ancient geologic forces, with opportunities to scramble around interesting nooks along the way. Starting at the Split Rock Picnic/Trailhead area, the namesake huge split boulder looms right by the parking. At the southern end of the Split Rock Loop, take the Face Rock trail to check out Face Rock and Skull Rock, returning via the Discovery Trail with its interpretive signs. Back at the Face Rock trail, backtrack to the Split Rock Loop to complete that loop and return to the parking lot.
