This was a very difficult route to follow!! We got off route 3 times and highly recommend a GPS download to save 2 hours of hiking. We missed trail markers at entrance off the forestry toad, illegal logging area and scree area before summit 1,400 m ish. Arriving at lost lake shelter was a pleasant surprise. Glad we had steri strips in our First Aide Kit, which my husband used to close my 2 cm x 2 cm wound I got from sharp granite rock. I will hike in zipper pants vs capris next time to protect my legs from all the scratches I got. The route up the river bed was quite wet due to overgrown thorny vines, moss and wet logs, rocks which made it very slippery. A machete, lined rubber gloves would have been very helpful and highly recommend. There are lots of creeks and lakes along the way!! I carried 2 soft 500 ml water bottles was plenty of water for me and I drink a lot of water. I carried a Salomon waterproof 15 Litter back pack, which was an ideal size, which weighed 10.5 lbs to start and 2-3 lbs at end as my husband carried my lunch and my 10 essentials safety kit after my injury near Lost Lake. The views were EPIC and our group of 4 wished we had more time to enjoy. It took us 7h50m to summit Deeks Peak, which was very challenging and difficult. Our total distance travelled was 22.87km in 12h9m. Thankfully the down was much quicker, but steep especially as we headed to Deeks Lake where we saw our 1st campers after not seeing any people for 9h30m. The trail is quite routy from Deeks Lake for the 1st and gets easier as you get down trail more. This is not a 6 hour out and back hike because it has several areas near Lost Lake that are overgrown. It may be a 6 hour out & back from Lost Lake and Shelter.
