Fryman Canyon Dearing Trail Loop
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Fryman Canyon starting at the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook and passing the Tree People center with the Joyce Lipkis Garden and Lo Kretz Urban Watershed Garden. It also passes through Wilacre Park and Colwater Canyon Parks.
Getting Started
The hike shows starting at Wilacre Park on Laurel Canyon and Fryman Road. However there is also a parking lot on the north side on Mulholland Drive west of Laurel Canyon Drive, you'll be starting at the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook. You can also park at Tree People on the corner of Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland. Parking is free. The terrain is undulating hills, which is not particularly strenuous but will require some exertion. Even though this area is surrounded by residential neighborhoods there is a nice wilderness feel. In Fryman Canyon there is more vegetation. Part of the time you'll be walking though residential neighborhoods.
On the western edge of the loop is the Tree People area (https://www.treepeople.org/) with some gardens and buildings with displays and and outdoor theater.
Dogs on a leash are okay: https://mrca.ca.gov/parks/park-listing/fryman-canyon-park/
There are restrooms at tree people.
Taking Children
There isn't much in the way of features and so it's a pretty standard hike in California Chaparral. For taking children it might be best to start at the tree people entrance and visiting their facilities.
