Overview
This hike to Fortynine Palms Oasis is one of the best short hikes in Joshua Tree National Park. The trail starts with a steady climb over a rocky ridge with incredible views, then drops into a wide desert canyon. The oasis is a striking, thick cluster of California fan palms. The trail is about 3 miles round trip with roughly 300 feet of gain each way. No shade until you reach the palms.
Getting Started
From 29 Palms Highway 62, head south on Canyon Road. The road dead ends at the large trailhead. There is a pit toilet.
Taking Children
This hike is not appropriate for small children. The trail is steep and rocky.

Forty nine Palms
More typical mountain hike, did not have unique rock at other Joshua hikes. Still had good steps built into up/down.
Up and over mountain. And down to oasis - looked cool, like out of a movie.
Lots of red barrel cactus.
