Willow Hole
Overview
This is a moderate out-and-back trail to Willow Hole in Joshua Tree National Park. The route starts at the Boy Scout Trailhead along Park Boulevard, follows the Boy Scout trail north for 1.2 miles, and then turns east on the Willow Hole Trail. The mostly flat and open trail skirts the Wonderland of Rocks. After ~3 miles, the path follows a wash through narrows, then reaches the end of the sandy wash at a grove of willow trees and seasonal wetlands. Continue through the tangled willows on a rough path to explore the wetlands.
The Joshua Tree hiking guide considers this a strenuous hike, which should not be attempted in the summer. There is no shade, and walking is moderately difficult through the sandy wash section.
Getting Started
The Boy Scout Trail Parking area is on the north side of Park Boulevard, about halfway through the park. The parking lot is relatively large, but, like other parking lots in Joshua Tree, it can fill early. There is a privy at the trailhead.

Taking Children
The trail is fine for pre-teens and older, although they might find it dull compared to other hikes in Joshua Tree with closer-in rock formations. Bring plenty of water for this exposed hike.
