BSA Camp Raymond Fortress Trail 10/15/2016 Great hike for Webelos Cub Scouts. This is a fun hike; however, the available instructions were not so great. So, on our Pack Campout, we took the opportunity to map it out. This trail is about 1 mile in, 1 mile out. You begin the hike from the Directors Quarters at BSA Camp Raymond. Proceed due south from there along the dirt road until you reach the pump house and boundary gate to the camp property. From there the trail is marked with YELLOW ribbons. The Boy Scouts keep them up pretty well, but some were down from weather, so keep your eyes peeled. After passing through the gate continue straight (roughly south) on the trail, through the field, until you reach the tall pines. From here the trail starts going up, and up, and up some more. Finally, you reach the clearing at "Fortress." Which is a beautiful lookout back over the Camp and surrounding areas! The are great views of the San Francisco Peaks as well as Sycamore Canyon. Take a breather, have a snack, take some pics, and head back down.
