Great trail many miss out on. Good distance loop trail, but unfortunately only one place to camp for a overnight adventure and that’s at Mounds SRA. Not too bad if you leave a vehicle full of food staged at your campsite beforehand though. Restrooms with showers in the campgrounds when in season. 26 mile loop with around 3000 feet of elevation gain. Several creek crossings along the trail, hills can be steep for short sections. Walking the northern causeway isn’t the most fun but most drivers give you plenty of room, some even slow down some. A really nice trail in early April. Woodlands section now cleared very nicely.

This trail had multiple changes of scenery/terrain that provided multiple creek type crossings (most were pretty dry of small and easy to cross without getting wet or muddy) and where the lake was visible at times. There was lots of wildlife to watch and listen to such as chipmunks, squirrels and many types of birds especially woodpeckers. This trail is a fun out and back but can also be made into a loop if you want to walk on the old Scenic Trail which is an old road that the access has been blocked off to.
