When riding down Bear Springs you come up a the second longer peddle uphill. It takes you close to the road. Walk cross country for a short distance to the road. Peddle uphill to the start of MX.

This hike has some of the best views in the area. It is a moderately hard hike concerning the elevation gain in conjunction with the extremely rocky and slippery trail. I would not recommend this hike for those who have unsure footing.

Started at 6:20. Camped near trailhead off road in truck bed. Not so steep up. Long but very doable. Trial connecting Sapphire to Emerald Lake was the worst part. Very overgrown bushes to whack through, rocky scramble section and steep incline to Sapphire. About 5 hours to Emerald and another hour to Sapphire cuz I was gassed. Not too many on the trails. Lot of people stopped to camp in the meadows. Forgot to stop recording when I arrived. One only good camp spot at Sapphire which I got. Early bird. Lots more down at Emerald.

I really enjoyed this hike. I hugged up to horse camp, and there was a little cabin. I would definitely do this hike again. I went early in the morning and the temperatures were subfreezing. It was mid June!

Summited 07/19:
Camper at Helen Lake for an early rise to summit.
The snow bridge that connects Red Banks to Misery Hill has collapsed and formed a bergschrund. Wouldn’t be too much of an issue if I was taller but had to jump to make it over the crevasse - scary.
Crampons not needed after Red Banks.
Pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of!
If I had to do it again I would do it in one day - lighter pack would have been a game changer and I would follow the Horse Camp Trail all the way up. The Avalanche Gulch trail is too difficult and unnecessary to follow until you reach Helen Lake when it actually matters to follow that route. I back tracked not realizing they merge and the route I took was a very difficult scramble.
Ice axe, crampons, proper shoes are necessary.

Started at the lower falls lot and walked to the middle falls. Very easy, very well maintained trail. The falls were amazing! The trail continues up to the top of the middle falls to an overlook and on to the upper falls. We didn’t hike up, decided to walk back and drive to the upper instead, because of time constraints, but it would’ve been a very easy switch back up and many groups were doing it

Not much of interest and the two places we camped were only marginally decent and pretty cramped. The good part is that there was no one else out there.

April 4th 2021: Hiked around the South side of the lake (still mostly frozen) toward heart lake. From there we followed the ridge up and around till finally reaching the peak. Along the ridge we assessed ski tracks, many off cornices. We could see Castle Arches to the SE. we continued, making a loop until reaching our tracks near the tree line below heart lake.
The snow was pretty wet at the top, making it difficult to stay upright on snow shoes at certain points.
Overall great snow shoe hike with beauty views of the lake mt Shasta, castle arches and mt Ashland to the north.

Simple trail. Did it in a stock Jeep rubicon. Most suv with clearance could make it. Didn’t need 4 wheel drive. Had two cool river crossings. It’s long. Took us 3.5 hours to get through it. We stopped a few times for views and exploring. For a great view of mt. Shasta and some awesome woods this trail is perfect.

Not a bad trail. Has great views of mount Shasta. Went through in a stock 2017 Jeep jku rubicon. Some pets had to go slow and get a spotter for the larger rocks. Nothing too crazy. Towards the last third of the trail the bushes really come into the trail. You will scratch your vehicle. If you’re not ready for that turn back once you see the bushes because it’s like that all the way to the end. It lost a star for this. The last half mile is unreachable. One of the reviews said it was washed out. Understatement lol. It looks like an old waterfall. Just large rocks and bushes straight up a 45 degree mountain. If you want to get to the top it’s best to just hike the last part unless you got a rock crawler and are willing to risk damage. It lost a star for this too. Other than that, it’s a chill trail with so many spots for camping and other side trails to explore the woods. Probably better used for that than to see the falls.

Easy short hike to horse camp hut, then continued towards hidden valley. Hidden valley was amazing with a great view of both Mt. Shasta and Shastina peaks. After leaving horse camp there were no water streams Nor much shade

7-3-20. This was a wonderful trip. We hiked into Grizzly Meadows. The larger campsites are on the right side of the creek as you approach the falls. It’s hard to see the campsites. Look signs of people crossing over. There are many but not obvious. There are campsites at the lake. That means you have to lug your gear up the step trail to the lake. Include time to hike one of the peaks, 3-5 hours. The lake was chilly but doable. Most of the snow from the mountains had melted. I’ve been told it is one of the nicest hikes in Trinity. The falls are beautiful.

It’s a trail old logging roads to a fire lookout. It is best to follow the roads as it is pretty overgrown in the former clearcuts. There’s a nice old look out up top. With nice momentos left from former lookouts. Now there is a fat squirrel that runs the show.

We started at a leisurely 4:30am. Skinned/ boot packed up to the summit. Skies down the west face and dropped a shoot ending up in avalanche gulch. Super fun
