Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail that passes Deadfall Meadows, Deadfall Lake, and Upper Deadfall Meadows in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

This challenging hike climbs through flower-filled meadows and passes several inviting lakes. Beyond the lakes, the trail ascends steep switchbacks above treeline, rewarding the effort with ever-expanding views of the Trinity Alps, Scott Mountains, and the peaks of Northern California. The 9,025-foot summit of Mount Eddy offers one of the finest panoramic vistas in the region, including an unforgettable close-up view of Mount Shasta rising to the east. Wildflowers, alpine lakes, and diverse mountain scenery make this a classic Siskiyou hike, though the elevation gain and exposed upper slopes make it best suited for experienced hikers prepared for a strenuous day.

Getting Started

The trail starts on the other side of the road from the trailhead parking area.

Taking Children

This is a strenuous hike and is only suitable for older children with stamina.
