Beautiful hike, with panoramic views at the top and some terraces with an Inca structure at the top!

We did tour Machu Picchu village main village area first day and hiked Machu Picchu mountain second day. Between the too mountains you can hike (Montana Machu Picchu [old mountain] or Hayuana Picchu [young mountain - that’s in Inca Quechua language]) MP mountain is easier, but much higher and allows views of all surrounding larger snow-capped mountains (Veronica, Salkantay, Pumacillo range). Due to the constant ascent, uneven and frequented very narrow and high steps I would rate this as a difficult trail. Only small sections in the upper portions are narrow pathed and have drop offs next to them were you have to carefully watch. Many viewpoints along the way and stunning views from the top.
