Great Divide NOT HORSE FRIENDLY! The route along the steep exposed slope is exceptionally dangerous and extremely narrow, especially in a large group. We had 7 horses and the first couple of horses had decent footing but the trail deteriorated with each horse and there was zero option to turn around or safely dismount. One horse had one misstep and we almost lost her and her rider down the slope. This near death experience was not one we wish one anyone else.
It is fine to travel by foot. It’s safe for humans, even dogs. But absolutely not intended for horses. We hope this note can help save someone else the anxiety ride from hell we experienced.
Note: we started at Police meadows and went to Og Lake. It was rough and rocky terrain. Hence why we thought we would take the other route back. DONT! Just come back through the rough pass.
Other than 20 minutes of terror, I would have given this day a 5 out of 5!

This is a 12km hike round trip if you go to Nub Peak. There are some slightly exposed scrambly sections near the top. The best views are from the Niblet, just 3.5km 200m up from the campground. If you are staying at Assiniboine this is a must do.
