Overview
Rampart Ridge Loop via Wonderland Trail
Moderate loop hike with a few amazing open views of the cascades and the ever so gorgeous Mount Rainier. Hike starts in the south entrance of the trail of the shadows and quickly gains elevation up to the ridge area. Enjoy the quietness and serene views of the forest before you reach open areas of various peaks and then suddenly Mount Rainier. After you reach the open views of Mount Rainier the trail begins to descend and eventually meets up with the Wonderland Trail. Follow the WT back towards Longmire, and one point you’ll need to cross the road to continue on the trail, to complete the loop.
Getting Started
Park at the Longmire visitor area. Cross the road to the south entrance of the Trail if the Shadows. This direction starts the loop as clockwise.
Taking Children
Doable with children. Allow them to take breaks and enjoy all that nature has to offer...but be careful and stay on the trail to leave no trace and protect our national parks
