Mount Major Loop (12/23/14, 12:11:34PM)
Mount Major is an incredible hike that could range from a few hours to making a day of it. The trail itself is very well marked and pretty easy to hike with only a few steep spots if you take the main trail but you can come up the backside if you choose. Today the trail had a few inches of snow that was well broken out and towards the top their was dust on crust or ice for this one. Getting up the steeper sections was somewhat challenging without microspikes but we managed after a few small slips. The fun part about this hike is if you want to make more of it you can hike into the Belknap range, which we did a few years ago. This trip was strictly to the summit and then down and around the back side of Mount Major. It will offer beautiful views once you come out onto the granite summit onto Lake Winnipesaukee, unfortunately for us, clouds, snow, and rain.
Mount Major (7/17/13, 10:35:14AM)
Fairly short hike. Went up the blue trail and down the yellow. Blue is steeper and slightly more intense, but the view is better. It increasingly opens up over Alton bay. The yellow is much easier and a better decline. Not too many steep slopes and a small stream to cool off and dip your hat or handkerchief in. Worth multiple hikes, good half day.

First time trying this app. Blue trail up, yellow trail down.
