Wildhorse Meadows Road is a popular 11-mile trail in the San Bernardino National Forest near Big Bear Lake. The trail is pretty mild during summer and most trucks and hi-clearance SUVs should be able to clear this trail during summer with 2-wheel-drive. The Southern part of the trail is less maintained than the Northern end and it is dotted with some short rocky sections. As long as there is no snow or mud, this trail shouldn't be an issue for trucks and hi-clearance SUVs. Low-clearance SUVs, like Subarus, should avoid the Southern portion of the trail due to the sharp rocky sections. Tire and underbody damage is possible for these types of "softroaders". The highest point of this trail is roughly 8600 ft above sea-level, so during the snowy or wet seasons, only hi-clearance vehicles with 4x4 low, chains, and duel lockers should attempt this trail. The Southern entrance is not well marked and is easy to miss. Be careful of oncoming traffic when turning across the highway. The Northern entrance is much easier to spot and has parking at the trailhead. Be sure to have a Forest Adventure Pass to park here or you will get a ticket from the NFS Rangers. The Thumbum Uranium Mine has excavations located along 2N93 and if you do your research you can find the old claims and blasting sites. My crew brought a Geiger-Counter and we were able to find Uranium ore samples ranging from 150-500 CPM. I will not post the locations here, but with some research on mining database websites, you should be able to find the 4-5 excavation sites.
