Overview

This is a moderate one way trail in Susquehannock State Forest

This trail goes by Elk Lick Knob.

Getting Started

Begin along Red Ridge Road. Follow the Twin Sisters Trail (yellow blazes) south until reaching the Susquehannock Trail System (STS, orange blazes). Turn right on the STS, making a long descent to Hammersly Fork. You'll follow the Hammersly Fork uphill along the STS for quite a long time, through possible the most remote location in all of Pennsylvania. Once reaching the top, head right along Red Ridge Road back to the start (this is not shown on the hike). Alternatively, you can park a vehicle at both access points.

Taking Children

This is a long and remote hike, and should only be done by experienced hikers. Children as young as 6 have thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, so it is possible, but understand the remoteness and ruggedness before attempting this hike with children.
