Stirrup Tank Road - Joshua Tree National Park
Stirrup Tank Road is a well maintained, 1.5 mile, dirt road in Joshua Tree National Park. Any vehicle, besides low-clearance vehicles, should be able to complete this road without issue. Take care during foul weather as the road may washout. During peak seasons in the park, stops along Pinto Basin Rd. and Park Blvd. can become very crowded. Stirrup Tank Road can provide a little relief from the masses. There is a parking lot at the beginning of Stirrup Tank Road where most of the tourists will stay to explore the nearby rocks. It is common for them to block the start of the dirt road, so you may have to wait for them to move. At the end of this road there is a pit toilet but no running water, so much sure to pack appropriately. The area at the end has some amazing rock formations, dry creeks, as well as Stirrup Tank and Hidden Tank. This area would make a great hiking/bouldering/exploring area.
