Overview

This is a moderate loop trail in Hoosier National Forest. This trail follows an old road that leads to Terrill Cemetery, but veers east before reaching it. You'll hike through several stands of red and white pine as well as a mix of other deciduous trees. The best part of the trail is the southern leg as you descend into a valley. There are several established campsites through this area. Campsite 4 is the best of the lot. Water is seasonal from this creek (usually available Oct-May). Be sure to hike up the fire tower before or after your hike!

Getting Started

The trailhead is at the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower. You can only park at designated sites along Tower Ridge Road. Be sure to get there early during the summer as the parking lot fills up quickly.

Taking Children

With this being a longer hike with some elevation it would not a good hike for small children. Dogs are allowed on this trail and can be off leash, but must be under control at all times.

This was my first time at Hoosier National Forest - Deam Wilderness. The Sycamore Loop trail was awesome. I loved that you go through several different environments in one hike. There were a few spots that took us off trail a bit to explore the creek and camp sites so our hike was just over 8 miles instead of the 6 something advertised - LOL!
