Under mountain Appalachian
This is an excellent day hike via the Under Mountain trail to the Appalachian trail NB to the Bear Mountain Summit. Stopped at the summit to have a bit of lunch, take in the views and enjoy the environment.
The hike is a nearly continuous uphill trek to Bear Mountain. Continuing NB on the Appalachian trail briefly into Massachusetts is an extremely steep and rocky descent. I was glad I brought both trekking poles this trip.
I would hike this route more often were it not for the drive distance from Hartford.
