Overview

This is one of the most popular hikes in SC for a reason. While not exceedingly long or difficult, it offers a challenging climb, with some rocky scrambles that add some adventure.

Leaving from the Nature Center at Table Rock State Park, the trail passes Carrick Creek Falls and Green Creek Falls before begin the steeper climbing.

On the way to the summit you'll pass the charismatic Halfway Shelter, and you'll get some interesting views from Governor's Rock as you climb up the shallow steps chiseled in the rock.

Continue past the Summit for a short distance to reach the real payoff, the rocky cliffs with dramatic views of the Table Rock Watershed and the SC foothills area.

Getting Started

The hike begins from the Nature Center in Table Rock State Park, SC. There is ample parking near the Nature Center, and restrooms are available.
There is a fee to enter the park. Information about the park, including hours and admission rates can be found at: https://southcarolinaparks.com/table-rock

Taking Children

This is an excellent area for children, especially the lower sections around the falls and nature trail. The upper sections of this trail will be too challenging for most younger children.

Trail was well maintained but often pretty rugged and definitely a challenging climb for a beginner. You have to be very careful of all of the steep rock climbs and be very fit. However, the view was well worth it and there were several good spots to take pictures and sit. It was very beautiful and I would do it again.

Not an overly difficult hike, but one of the most difficult in South Carolina. Difficulty aside, this is probably the best base to summit to big view overlooks in the entire State.

Table Rock Trail
This was a clear cool July day , more like a day from the end of September. I started at about 8:55 am and it was about 65F. Finished at about 12:57 and it was in high 70’s. This is a classic hike with remarkable views but always a challenge and strenuous with over 2000 foot elevation change . The best view is at the destination , looking down on a big lake. The initiated may stop short at an overlook to the right after coming down the hill from the Table Rock Summit. Take a look but keep going to the left of this overlook , for about 0.2-0.3 miles to get to the “ end” of the trail and the fantastic overlook over a big lake.
