Overview

Enjoy this scenic and challenging 14+-mile out-and-back trail beginning at Moulton Falls near Yacolt, Washington. This popular route winds through a variety of terrain, offering lush forest, clear-cut ridgelines, and peaceful creekside paths—perfect for hikers looking for both beauty and a workout.

The trail starts with a steep, one-mile climb through dense forest, leading to expansive views near the summit of Bell’s Mountain. Around the top, the trail crosses a road that can be a bit tricky to navigate—once you reach the road, turn left and follow it around to the right for about 100 yards. Look for a cairn marking where the trail resumes.

From there, the route follows the slopes of Bell’s Mountain and Spotted Deer Mountain, then gradually descends toward Cedar Creek. The trail ends just south of the Cold Creek Day Use Area.

Many hikers choose to make this a one-way 7.7-mile point-to-point hike with a shuttle pickup at Cold Creek. Others prefer the full 16-mile out-and-back for the extra challenge and time in nature. Either way, the Bell’s Mountain Trail rewards with stunning views, quiet stretches, and a mix of ecosystems that keep the journey interesting.
