Overview

This is a difficult loop trail to Zigzag Mountain in Mount Hood National Forest.

This trail goes by Devils Meadow and East Zigzag Mountain.

Driving Directions
Drive Highway 26 east.

From the last traffic light in Sandy, continue 17 miles past Wemme to Zigzag, and then turn left onto E. Lolo Pass Road.

Drive 4.3 miles, and make a right turn onto FR 1825 at a sign that reads Campgrounds, Trailheads.

After 0.7 miles, turn right and cross the Sandy River Bridge, driving 1.7 miles to bear right at a sign for Lost Creek Nature Trail.

After 0.3 miles, pass the entrance to Lost Creek Campground and the road becomes gravel and somewhat potholed.

From here, it's 1.4 miles to the end of the road (keeping straight at a junction on the way) and the Burnt Lake Trailhead.

A few good views of the mountains, with Mt. Hood esp. prominent along with Jefferson, St. Helens, Rainier and Adams, and abundant and varied wildflowers. Unfortunately, dozens of deadfall to maneuver over/under/around, plus long stretches of heavy brush, took away much of the enjoyment. High degree of solitude, though - we didn’t see any other hikers despite it being a beautiful sunny Saturday.
