Overview

Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 59 min to complete. This is a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

This scenic loop in the Mount Hood Wilderness offers a little bit of everything: river views, lush forest, a stunning waterfall, and sweeping mountain vistas. The trail follows the Sandy River for nearly three miles before gradually climbing toward the spectacular Ramona Falls. From there, the route continues on the Timberline Trail beneath a thick forest canopy, eventually opening up to a clear-cut area with panoramic views. Be sure to take the short detour to the summit of Bald Mountain for one of the best views of Mount Hood. Afterward, connect with the Pacific Crest Trail to complete the loop.
