Overview
The Burnt Lake Trail is a favorite spot for backpacking, hiking, and running, yet during quieter parts of the day, you can find peaceful solitude. The ideal time to explore this trail is from May through October. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
The trail features a steady ascent beneath a thick canopy of trees, running alongside a creek with several small stream crossings. It follows the north shore of Burnt Lake, a stunning alpine lake offering camping opportunities around its edge. Continue southwest to reach the junction with the Zigzag Mountain Trail. From there, East Zigzag Mountain’s rocky summit rewards hikers with sweeping panoramic views of Mount Hood.
