Hooker Falls Loop via Triple Falls Trail and High Falls Trail
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail that goes by Hooker Falls and
Triple Falls in DuPont State Recreational Forest.
Starting from the Hooker Falls Access Area, take the trail off to the right of the bridge, on the same side of the river as the lot. It's a short walk, mostly downhill, to the falls. There are plenty of rocks to climb on for the best views and you can even swim in the summer.
Back at the start of the trail, cross the bridge to begin the Triple Falls trail. You'll follow the river until the trail becomes steep as you get closer to the overlook. At the top of the hill, a staircase leads downward for a close-up view of the falls.
Continue on the High Falls Trail past the High Falls Overlook. This trail intersects with Buck Forest Road, which leads to the other parking lot. Turn it into a loop hike by taking the other branch of the Triple Falls Trail, which eventually meets up just past the staircase. From there, it's down the hill and back to the parking area.
The same trail system can be hiked starting at the Buck Forest Parking Area - you will take one branch of the loop to Hooker Falls and then return on the other branch of the Triple Falls Trail.
Getting Started
The trail begins at either Hooker Falls Access Area or Buck Forest Parking Area, both off Staton Road in DuPont State Forest. The parking lots fill up quickly on the weekends.
Taking Children
This is a good hike for children with only one steep hill leading up to the Triple Falls overlook from Hooker Falls. The trails are wide but do become crowded on weekends. Take caution around the rocks and water, as they are often slick.
