Overview
A beautiful fall hike along the Maple Trail and closed sections of Salzman Road in Forest Park. The loop includes a section of Firelane 4, which is very steep and can be very muddy. So, decide if you prefer to go up or down this steep, slick section. The rest of the route is generally in good shape. There are bikers on Salzman Road.
Getting Started
The hike starts at the Lower Saltzman Road Trailhead. From Highway 30 (NW St. Helens Rd), head east on NW Saltzman Road. NW Saltzman is in the industrial area, between NW 57th and NW 60th Avenues. NW Saltzman winds uphill for 3 miles until it ends at a gate. Parking is alongside the road.
Taking Children
Most trails in forest park are appropriate for children, but beware there are often off-leash dogs.
