Upheaval Dome second overlook via Upheaval Dome Trail(edit)

Overview

This is a mostly easy out and back trail to Upheaval Dome second overlook in Canyonlands National Park - Island In The Sky District.

The trail leaves from the parking area and almost immediately climbs some stone steps up to Upheaval Dome first overlook. This portion of the trail is east and well signed. The first overlook gives a great view of Upheaval Dome as well as a wide panorama of the surrounding area.

Getting from the first overlook to the second overlook is a bit more challenging. The trail is marked by cairns as it crosses several sections of slick rock before descending towards the second overlook. While not steep, there is some loose gravel and the trail does have some tricky sections. Be sure to follow the trail all the way to the end, the final view of Upheaval Dome is exceptional.

This trail also goes by Upheaval Point just before descending to the second overlook.

Be prepared, this is a busy trail and offers minimal shade. Suggest arriving early to find a parking spot and bring water. Avoid this hike during mid-day in the summer.
