Chief Mountain Trail - Out (Not Back)
Chief Mountain Trail is a 2.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Idaho Springs, CO that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible from June until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Directions from Idaho Springs: Exit I-70 in Idaho Springs at exit 240. Go south on Colorado Highway 103. The trailhead is located 5 miles east of Echo Lake on Colorado Highway 103. SPECTACULAR view from top-360•. Took 1hr 10 min with gradual incline to top and 40 min down. Nice trail. Fairly easy. Trailhead tricky to find. It's about 1/2 mile after Echo Lake Lodge. If you get to a turnaround with an Echo Ski sign in the middle, you missed it by about 1/4 mile-go back! Very windy on top and so beautiful! Last 30 feet you need to boulder to top.
