This is a difficult out and back trail to Heart Lake, passing through Roosevelt National Forest and the James Peak Wilderness.
You do not need permits to backpack and camp along this route.
This is an alternate route for Lower Crater Lake South via Rogers Pass Trail and Crater Lakes Trail.
