Overview

This is a difficult out and back trail in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

Getting Started

Parking is at the Timpoonekee Trailhead. This lot normally fills by 5 am on busy weekends and holidays, and parking bans on shoulders are strictly enforced. Start early. Also, there is a nominal fee to park anywhere in the Alpine Loop/American Fork Canyon area.

Taking Children

Kids can normally handle this hike if already accustomed to hiking. It can be hot at the bottom and cool in the basin. Be prepared for variable conditions.

This is an alternate route for Mount Timpanogos Trail.

A really great trail. I just love it in the off season when the crowds are mostly gone. Right now the trail is mostly snow and some icy sections but well traveled and easy to follow. Once you’re into the upper basin skis or snowshoes are needed - I was postholing with every step! I was lucky enough to run across coyotes and mountain goats on this trip. Only a few other people on the trail.
