Overview

This is a moderate one way trail to Golden Throne Viewpoint in Capitol Reef National Park.

This trail goes by Capitol Gorge Trailhead.

The trail is short and very densely packed with views and features that will all but overstimulate your visual senses. Go to the top of the trail around sunset for an unforgettable memory. The trail is moderately strenuous to get to the top of the overlook.

Getting Started

Drive 10 miles down the Capitol Reef National Park Scenic Road to the trailhead. You will cross over into the unpaved section of the road to get to the trailhead. Allow 30-45 minutes for the drive. Once you arrive at the parking area the Golden Throne trail is the trail closest to the entrance of the parking area. It is characterized by an immediate steep stair climb.

Taking Children

This is a good trail to take children on. There are steep climbs and dropoffs, but the trail is wide enough where it is not dangerous.
