Mormon Mountain hike of 10.3 miles, and an ERM of 17. Up 1600 feet. This hike starts at the Double Springs Campground off the Mormon Lake loop road. It proceeds North on the AZT, Arizona Trail, meeting the trail to Mormon Mountain coming up from Dairy Spring Campground (another possible starting point). Joining the Mormon Mountain Trail, one climbs to views of Mormon Lake at about 7500' and into P-Pines, firs, oaks, and aspens as one reaches the summit ridge at about 8300 feet. One joins the (usually closed) dirt road to the communication towers area and high point at 8461 feet. A jaunt around the Mormon Mountain (dirt) Tank is recommended for some diversity, assuming there is water in the tank.
