This is a nice hike on the less common route taken to Willow Lakes. There are spectacular views of Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island as well as the rugged Deseret Peak. The road to the trail head is rough and I was not able to drive my Honda Element all the way. This added about 2 miles to the round trip as I had to hike the last mile of the road to the trail head. If you have a jeep, 4x4 pickup or decent SUV it shouldn't be a problem to drive all the way. There were lots of campers and ORV riders on the road to the trail head but once on the hiking trail I didn't see another person. This is pretty rare this time of year and it is why I chose to hike the Stansbury Range on this day rather than the Wasatch. That said, the infrequently used trail was heavily overgrown in some areas and could be difficult to follow. If you stay on my track you'll have no problems. There were some grazing cattle along the way. Cows and calves will run away from you but there was a gigantic bull grazing smack in the middle of the trail at about mile 2.6. As I got closer to him it became clear that he wasn't afraid of me and wasn't going to move. That explains the detour you see on my track as I had to bushwack around him! The wildflowers were in full bloom, especially above 8300 feet. I saw 5 deer, some hummingbirds and heard an elk bugling but never saw him. Overall a very nice hike, especially if you value solitude on the trail.
