Waqrapukara return trek
This could be the next Machu Picchu. Ancient Inca ruins are terraced all the way up this incredible horned mountain perched on the edge of a canyon with terraced farmland right by its side. The views of the canyon below are pretty amazing too! There is also a cave home under a big rock.
You won’t see the crowds of people there like you do at better known locations, we passed just a couple groups coming in and out and there were just a few groups at the campground. Camping is free, and no permits are necessary as of 2019.
There are other routes that lead here as well. The ruins are located at the hair pin turn near the campground (beginning of track) where there is a nice water source. Camping in the ruins is not permitted, but the campground is literally right beside it. There is a pit toilet. The park keepers are very helpful, there’s even a rustic kitchen and dormitory if you don’t want to carry camping gear. They might even cook a meal for you for a tip :)
