This is our first trip in the Osgood river basin in the Adirondacks (NY State). The Osgood river is a quiet stream meandering through tamarack swamps, evergreen and hardwood forests and ravines. It starts as the outlet of the Osgood Pond (where the Summer White House of president Coolidge is located) and ends in lake Meacham where it continues as the St. Regis River all the way to the St. Lawrence river. We are planning to navigate this river from beginning to end, though not necessarily in that order because at one point it disappears under ground for a short distance only to reappear in a tamarack swamp a kilometer downstream. It then reconstitutes itself as a navigable (canoe and kayak only of course) a couple of Kilometers downstream. If you follow the link and double click on the pictures in the side bar it will show you where these pictures were taken on a map or on an aerial photograph (I just love GPS on my iThingys :=) )
