Rustig 18km hiking trail (blue trail) is not for the fainthearted. You quickly start accending the Magaliesberg mountain with a trail that every so often zig-zag up the mountain, with some breathtaking views of the valley below. Should you be afraid of hights then this trail is not for you because there are several wooden ladders to menouvre up with a vertical cliff drop right next to you. Never a dull moment on this trail, you must focus where you are walking to prevent yourself from tripping over a rock. There are some interesting names for all the points of interests along the trail. I took a lunch break @ a sign stating, “Hiking at own risk, dangerous”. At that moment I did not realise what was ahead. Only when I saw “Bobbejaan afsak” the whole mountain just disappeared and it was a total cliff drop with a whole line of dodgy wooden ladders taking you further and further down this cliff. That was truly scary. After a while with feet back on solid ground the slow descent down the mountain start. Perhaps a thought is to wear long pants as you cross through fern overgrowth which can be hard on the skin. The terrain is constantly changing, up and down. Over fences with wooden ladders as you follow the blue trail markers. When you reach the game fence the worst is behind you and you can relax with some easier walking for the next 5 km to the finish. At the finish the trail only measured just over 15 km though. For the adventurous, truly a trail to do. Enjoy!
