This was a lovely hike through every kind of terrain, from ridge to swamp, with ups and downs throughout, but nothing too steep. Boulder trail runs flat alongside open fields, then ascends to Ledge Hill Trail, where we traditionally take our group photo looking out to sea. We cut west through the deep woods, with majestic White Pines, to reach the Fernwood Lake and Magnolia Swamp Trail -- where boardwalks run through lands that are perennially wet, though no standing water today.
Conditions were perfect -- high 50s, breezy, sunny most of the way. Another small group - 13 in all; led by Monica. Total distance, 3.5 miles, finished just 6 minutes over the estimate, in 1:51 hours.
