Grand Ridge to Maiden Peak
Took a long windy dirt road to the trailhead. Got there early. Glad we did, as many people arrived later. Talked to a ranger who called it one of the best hikes in the park. Lots of deer at the Deer Park ranger station (our trailhead). Started with a downhill into the woods. The first half of the hike was in the woods. Climbed to a beautiful meadow with fantastic views of the mountains. Hugged a narrow ridge for a bit. A little scary but not too bad. Had lunch at the base of Maiden Peak then climbed the short distance to the top. Stunning 360 view from the straight to the mountains. Could see Rainier in the distance. The way back was mostly downhill.
