The road from Jala is well marked and maintained cobblestone with some potholes. We had no trouble with a small Chevy 4-door. The road ends at cell towers and a few abandoned buildings. The trail is obvious and leads through many large former lava lake meadows. Skirting the tallest crater the trail ends at the most recent caldera where a central lava dome has on side steam vent.
