The biggest and most challenging hike for this group (or any other meetup group that I have seen so far) was accomplished yesterday by 6 brave souls. Total metrics: 30.67 miles 9,434 feet elevation gain moving speed: 3.4 MPH moving time: 9:08 stopped time: 3:14 We started at Kirk Creek Trail head at 8 am. We took the Vicente Flat Trail to the Stone Ridge Trail to the Stone Ridge Fire Break Use Trail (Sea to Sky) to a saddle on the Twin Peak Use Trail that lead us off trail to intersect the Cone Peak Trail down to Trail Springs Camp. From there we went up the Gamboa Trail to the NCRT. Then we hopped on the north ridge use trail of Cone Peak (the knife ridge). This was such a challenging but amazing section. From Cone Peak we descended the Cone Peak Summit trail back the Cone Peak Trail back to Trail Springs to the Gamboa Trail to Ojito Saddle to the Stone Ridge Trail to the Vicente Flat Trail back to the cars at Kirk Creek. All in all we took most of the trails in the Cone Peak area. Almost every section of trail was in perfect condition with very little brush or PO. The worst section was the brush saddle on the Stone Ridge Firebreak Use Trail. We were anticipating low 60's and most cloudy. It was completely overcast and drizzly on the way to the Monterey Peninsula but a few miles down HW1 the clouds parted and the sky turned blue and the sun was shining. The entire day we had sun and temps in the high 60's and low 70's with very little breeze. An exceptional day!!!
