ERM = Energy Required Miles. Take paper map- Sycamore wilderness, Coconino NF travel map, long pants and sleeves for brush, water filter for deluxe springs, and hiking poles (lots of unstable rocks). I hiked this loop by starting at the top of the Dorsey Spring TH road and hiking clockwise. This saves the best part of the trail to the last (except for the road walk on the rim). Start SW down Hog Hill Trail No 133 into the Sycamore Wilderness on an old, eroded, ankle-tilting rocks abandoned road. Circle around W to Winter Cabin/Spring (spring mudded in, look for water in drainage). Continue generally N to Dorsey Spring on the No 3, Kelsey Trail. From here, stay on the Kelsey Trail to fabulous Babe's Hole Spring. Climb past Kelsey Spring to the rim and Kelsey TH. The road walk back to Dorsey TH is uphill, ending near Casner Tank. Drving: From Flagstaff, take W. Old Route 66 west to FR 231 (Woody Mountain Road). Go south on FR 231 for 14 miles and take a right at FR 538, (stay left at 1.4 mi.) to FR 538E (about 5.5 miles). It's about 0.5 miles from junction of FR 538 and FR 538E to the Dorsey trailhead. FR538 may be in horrible condition. If so, it's 0.5 miles from the FR538/538E intersection to the carpark for the Dorsey TH (the TH is just down the hill - another section you may not wish to drive). Hike clockwise, start at Dorsey Sp. TH. Hog- Winter cabin - Dorsey- Babe Hole-Kelsey-road walk =10.1 mi loop. Access to the trailheads is by dirt roads which can be extremely rough and even impassable during Monsoon Season and winter months due to mud and heavy snow. Woody Mountain Road is subject to winter season road closure. GPS (Map): 35°04'28.3"N 111°55'47.1"W is Kelsey TH
