Lone Pine Lake
This was a highly enjoyable hike. It was a trail! It went up all the way, roughly 8,000-10,000'. I say trail because compared, say, to the hiking I did at Yosemite High Sierra Camps, there were hardly any rocks. And because it was a trail, you could walk-take your own step size and maintain a comfortable pace, as opposed to picking your way through rocks where you have to take steps of a size that enables you to get through or around or over them; where you are more at risk of twists in the joints and you ultimately work harder so you tire more quickly. I was able to hike all the way up with no rest stops because I was able to set a pace & keep it; I did not get tired. That meant that when I got to the lake, I was able to relax, enjoy & explore it. The trail goes from forest to alpine. Wonderful views along the way, dotted with alpine meadows, springs, creeks & lakes. Highly recommended!
