Mt. Olympus hike—take 2
Did this hike in the summer. This was my 2nd time going up Olympus (previous time was a late winter/early spring), and she was just as challenging as I remember her.
A relentless climb up that gets steeper and steeper as you go. In some ways, it was easier in winter because the snow layers made it less rocky, and also because at the summit, it was a packed layer of snow to casually stroll across as opposed to a huge boulder field. Also, the heat was relentless today. Bring TONS of water.
Still, I feel better the day after this hike as compared to my first hike. I was in much better shape this time. I actually ran the last two miles down and then hiked a half mile back up so I could get some more ice water from the truck and bring it back to one of my friends who was really hurting, out of water, and suffering early signs of heat stroke.
Olympus is a worthy challenge, and glad to have conquered it twice now.
