On a clear day there are 360 views from the Lookout Tower including Max Patch, Mt. Pisgah, the Black Mountain Crest, the Rowan Mountains, Mt. Sterling and many more. The hike up to the tower gains 2900 feet in elevation but is spread out mostly evenly over a consistent slope of 6 miles. If you do the loop hike the descent is not steep at all, but takes a long time. This is a very popular, well used trail and well maintained trail. The trail head is at Cosby Campground which would be a nice place to camp before the hike to get an early start.
