The calendar says it's summer, but the spring skiing in western Montana is as good as it gets right now, with 5 feet of snow at 8000 feet. Headed up Trapper peak today, 2 miles of hiking until there was consistent snow coverage, and after that it was firm enough that i ended up walking all the way to the summit in running shoes, never put my skins on. Had a nice 1000 foot run off the summit down the northeast bowl, then booted back up to the summit ridge for a long cruise back to the car.
